What is the FIA World Endurance Championship?
The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) is a sports car racing series sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). It is the top level of endurance racing, and features a variety of prototype and grand touring cars competing in races ranging from four to 24 hours in length.
The WEC was created in 2012 as a successor to the Le Mans Series and the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. The series currently consists of six rounds, with races held at some of the most iconic circuits in the world, including Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans, and Fuji.
The 2023 WEC Season
The 2023 WEC season is the eleventh season of the championship. The season began with the 1000 Miles of Sebring in March, and will conclude with the 8 Hours of Bahrain in November.
Some of the top teams competing in the 2023 WEC season include Toyota Gazoo Racing, Peugeot Sport, and Glickenhaus Racing. Toyota is the reigning champion, having won the last four drivers' and teams' championships.
