South Carolina set to kick off season versus Georgia State
Sophomores expected to make immediate impact for Gamecocks
A pair of true freshmen football players at the University of South Carolina were ranked as two of the top five freshmen in the Southeastern Conference, according to the league office.
Running back MarShawn Lloyd and defensive tackle Nick Emmanwori were recognized on the conference's annual "Freshmen to Watch" list, which was released Thursday.
- Lloyd was ranked No. 2 on the list, behind only LSU quarterback Walker Howard.
- Emmanwori was ranked No. 5 on the list.
Lloyd was a four-star recruit from Deland, Florida, where he ran for more than 200 yards and scored 25 touchdowns as a senior.
Emmanwori was a four-star recruit from Snellville, Georgia. He helped lead his team to a state championship last season.
Both players are expected to make an immediate impact for the Gamecocks this season.
Lloyd is expected to start at running back, while Emmanwori is expected to start at defensive tackle.
The Gamecocks open the season on September 3 at home against Georgia State.
