Jasmin Open: Miyazaki through to second round
Miyazaki defeats Hsieh 6-2, 6-4 to reach quarterfinals
Nozomi Miyazaki of Japan cruised past En-Shuo Hsieh of Taiwan 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of the Jasmin Open in Charleston, South Carolina on Tuesday.
Miyazaki, the world number 134, dominated the match from the start, breaking Hsieh's serve twice in the first set and once in the second set.
Hsieh, ranked 110th in the world, had a chance to break back in the second set when she was up 4-3, but Miyazaki saved two break points and held serve.
Miyazaki will face eighth-seeded Magda Linette of Poland in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
