Brazilian Goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes Released from Prison
Bruno Accused of Murder and Ordering Crimes
Court Upholds Conviction
Bruno Fernandes de Souza, the former Flamengo soccer goalkeeper who was convicted in 2013 of murdering his girlfriend, was released from prison Friday after nine years behind bars. Three out of four judges in a panel of Brazil's Supreme Court denied an appeal to overturn the conviction.
In his first major interview since being released, Bruno said he was confident he would eventually prove his innocence. He claimed that he was the victim of a miscarriage of justice and that he had been falsely accused of ordering the murder of his girlfriend.
