Defending champion Argentina advanced to the Copa America semifinals beating Ecuador 4-2 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw.
Lionel Messi missed his penalty kick in the shootout, but Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was the hero, saving two Ecuadorian attempts.
In the semifinals, Argentina will face Colombia, which upset Uruguay 4-2 on penalties in the other quarterfinal.
The Copa America is being held in Brazil this year and will conclude on July 10.
