Georgia made history and reached their first major tournament knockout stage with a stunning 2-0 victory over Portugal at Euro 2024.

The victory is the biggest upset in tournament history, with Georgia ranked 120th in the world and Portugal ranked 12th.

Willy Sagnol's men took the lead in the 13th minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and doubled their advantage in the 56th minute through Giorgi Chakvetadze.

Portugal, who had been overwhelming favourites, pushed for a goal but were unable to break down a resolute Georgia defence, and the match finished 2-0.

Sagnol, who took over as Georgia manager in 2021, has transformed the national team into a competitive force.

In their first major tournament, Georgia have now won two of their three group matches, and have qualified for the knockout stages as runners-up in Group B, behind Belgium, who they held to a goalless draw.

Georgia will now face the winners of Group A, either Italy or Turkey, in the last 16 on Saturday.
