Joe Burrow Becomes the NFL's Highest-Paid Player

Five-Year, $275 Million Extension Breaks AAV and Guaranteed Money Records

Bengals Quarterback Now Earns $55 Million Annually, Surpassing Justin Herbert's Contract

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has set a new record as the highest-paid player in NFL history. The 26-year-old signed a five-year, $275 million extension with the team, which includes a whopping $219.01 million guaranteed. This massive deal not only makes Burrow the NFL's highest-paid player but also sets new marks for annual average value (AAV) and guaranteed money.

With an AAV of $55 million, Burrow surpasses Justin Herbert's previous record of $54.5 million. Herbert had signed a five-year, $265 million extension with the Los Angeles Chargers just last year, which was previously the highest-paying contract in the NFL. Burrow's new contract also breaks the record for the most guaranteed money in an NFL contract, beating the previous mark of $191.5 million set by Deshaun Watson's deal with the Cleveland Browns.

Burrow's impressive performance on the field has undoubtedly earned him this lucrative contract. In his second season with the Bengals, he led the team to the Super Bowl, where they narrowly lost to the Los Angeles Rams. Burrow threw for 4,611 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions during the regular season, establishing himself as one of the NFL's top young quarterbacks.

The Bengals are undoubtedly thrilled to have secured Burrow as their franchise quarterback for the long term. After a disappointing 2022 season, the team is hoping that Burrow can lead them back to the playoffs and ultimately win a Super Bowl title. With the NFL's highest-ever salary, Burrow now carries the weight of expectations on his shoulders. However, given his talent and determination, he has proven that he is up to the challenge.
